How to get your USAA statement into Excel

Download the PDF statement from USAA online banking
- Log on to usaa.com or the USAA app.
- Go to the 'My Documents' page and open the statement.
- To print or download it, use the Menu icon after viewing the document.
- Save the statement for the period you need as a PDF.

What to know about USAA statements
Older documents are behind the filter
My Documents shows the last 18 months by default, but that isn't a hard limit: the Filter option extends the date range. Availability varies by document, and documents that have expired online may still be available by phone.
Monthly, or quarterly when quiet
A statement comes monthly when the account has activity and may move to quarterly when it doesn't, so a savings account can have longer statement periods. Upload them as they are; the period check looks at the dates each statement covers, not the calendar.
Joint accounts get one statement
However many owners an account has, there may be only one statement for it. If you and a spouse both download it, you have two copies of the same period. Upload both and the second is flagged as a duplicate rather than doubling your figures.
Converted checks show as electronic debits
When a payee turns your paper check into an electronic payment, it's listed as an electronic debit, with no check image. In your spreadsheet it looks like any other debit, so match it by amount and date when ticking off check numbers.

Accounting tip
For a household budget, the Excel file is enough on its own. For a business, upload the QuickBooks-ready CSV in QuickBooks Online or the Xero-ready CSV in Xero and map the columns. Reconcile each import to the statement's ending balance.
