pdf2text for QuickBooks Online: convert PDF bank statements to .qbo files, every row checked

Upload a PDF, scan or photo of a bank or credit card statement. Check every row beside the original page, then download a .qbo, .ofx or QuickBooks CSV file and add it with Upload from file in QuickBooks Online.

  • Bank and credit card statements from any bank, multi-page PDFs, scans and phone photos
  • Every row beside the original page, with a balance check, before you download
  • The same rows as Excel or CSV for your files, and Xero CSV too

How it works

3 steps to QuickBooks Online

  1. Upload and check

Drop a PDF, scan or photo of the statement. The rows open beside the original page, so you can fix any cell, and a balance check shows when the opening balance plus credits minus debits equals the closing balance.

  2. Download the file

Open Export and choose QuickBooks (.qbo), OFX or QuickBooks CSV. Excel or CSV for your records come from the same rows.

  3. Upload from file in QuickBooks Online

Go to Bank transactions, open the arrow next to Link account and choose Upload from file. Choose the file, pick the QuickBooks account and select Continue. The rows wait under For review, where QuickBooks Online suggests categories and matches before you accept them.

We followed these steps on October 17, 2026 in a QuickBooks Online test company: a pdf2text .qbo file brought in 16 of 16 rows with the right dates and amounts, and an .ofx file imported the same way.

Upload the PDF in QuickBooks Online, or convert it first?

QuickBooks Online can read a PDF statement itself. Here is that upload as Intuit's help describes it, next to pdf2text.

Use the upload in QuickBooks Online if

  • Your statements are in English and it reads them correctly.
  • You only need the transactions in QuickBooks Online, not a file to keep.

Use pdf2text if

  • You want to check every row and the balances against the page before anything reaches QuickBooks Online.
  • You need the same rows as Excel or CSV for the client file or an audit trail.
  • You also work in Xero or other accounting software.
  • You want the rows while you wait, read by software.

Formats

Files for QuickBooks Online

Every file comes from the rows you checked, edits included.

QuickBooks (.qbo)

The format Intuit suggests

A Web Connect file: dates and signed amounts are already labelled, so QuickBooks Online doesn't ask you to map columns.

OFX

An open bank file format. Upload from file in QuickBooks Online reads it, and so do Xero and other accounting programs.

QuickBooks CSV

Date, Description and Amount, with money out negative and one date format for the whole file: Automatic follows the statement's country, or choose DD/MM/YYYY, MM/DD/YYYY, YYYY/MM/DD or YYYY-MM-DD.

Excel and CSV

The same rows with their balances, for the client file, an audit trail or a last look before the import.

The .qbo, .ofx and QuickBooks CSV files come with a paid statement or any plan. The free first page exports as Excel, CSV or JSON.

Intuit asks for upload files in English, of 350 KB or less and up to 1,000 lines each: split a long period into date ranges.

Export

Date format: Automatic

  • QuickBooks CSVMM/DD/YYYY
  • Xero CSV.csv
  • QuickBooks (.qbo).qbo
  • OFX.ofx
  • Export as Excel.xlsx
  • CSV.csv

FAQ

Common questions

Can QuickBooks Online read a PDF bank statement itself?
Yes. Intuit's help for US accounts says you can upload a statement as a PDF or an image (JPG, PNG or HEIC) from any bank, as long as it's in English. Its AI extracts the transactions, you check them in a side-by-side view, and if some items need review, its team of global experts may review the statement. If that works for your statements, you don't need a converter.
How do I import a .qbo file into QuickBooks Online?
Go to Bank transactions, open the arrow next to Link account and choose Upload from file. Choose the .qbo file, pick the QuickBooks account the statement belongs to and select Continue. The transactions then wait under For review until you accept them.
Which file should I choose: .qbo, .ofx or QuickBooks CSV?
Start with .qbo: Intuit suggests a QBO file, and it needs no column mapping. Choose .ofx if you import into other software too, and the QuickBooks CSV if you want to open and edit the rows in a spreadsheet first.
Are the transactions added to my books straight away?
No. After Upload from file they wait under For review in QuickBooks Online, which suggests categories and matches. They reach your books when you accept them.
Does it work with QuickBooks Desktop?
The files are made for QuickBooks Online, where we tested the import. We haven't tested QuickBooks Desktop, so we don't promise it works there.
How much does it cost?
The first page of each statement is free. Pay once for a whole statement, at most $9 for up to 25 pages and priced by page count above that, or choose $29 a month for 400 pages. The .qbo, .ofx and QuickBooks CSV files come with a paid statement or any plan.
Does it work with Xero too?
Yes. The same statement exports as a Xero CSV or an OFX file, and Excel or CSV for any other software.
Can I send rows straight to QuickBooks Online?
Not yet. A direct connection to QuickBooks Online is in development. Until it's ready, download the file and use Upload from file.
Is pdf2text made by Intuit?
No. pdf2text is an independent product that makes files for QuickBooks Online. It isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Intuit.
