Dext alternative

A Dext alternative for the bank statement part of the job

Dext captures receipts, bills, and invoices and sends them to your books. Its bank statement extraction comes with a paid Dext plan. pdf2text does only the statement part: upload a PDF, scan, or photo, check every row beside the page, and download Excel, CSV, or a file for QuickBooks or Xero. Keep Dext for receipts and bills.

In short

  • No Dext plan needed for statements: pdf2text costs $29 a month for 400 pages, or $3 once per document of up to 5 pages, $9 up to 25. Dext's Business plan starts at $25.21 a month billed yearly with 10 sheets of statement extraction, then from $0.32 a document.
  • pdf2text reads the statement while you wait. Dext says 75% of statements are done within four hours, and scans can take up to 24.
  • Stay with Dext for receipts, bills, and supplier statements: pdf2text doesn't capture those or send them to your ledger.

Why people look for a Dext alternative for statements

Statements on top of a plan

Dext switches statement extraction on once you move to a paid plan. Its Business plan includes 10 sheets a month, then pay as you go from $0.32 a document. If statements are all you need, pdf2text has no other plan to buy first.

Waiting for the rows

Dext says digital PDFs usually take a few minutes, scans up to 24 hours. pdf2text reads the statement while you wait and shows every row beside its page.

Photos and more file types

Dext reads PDF or TIFF statements and gives back a CSV. pdf2text also reads phone photos, and gives Excel and CSV plus QBO, OFX, QuickBooks CSV, and Xero CSV files you import.

Pricing

What you would pay

Dext's published US prices, before tax. Its plans count statement extraction in sheets and its add-on in documents, and its pages don't say how many pages that is, so there is no Dext total for a page count here.

FAQ

Common questions

Is pdf2text cheaper than Dext for bank statements?
It depends on whether you use Dext for anything else. pdf2text needs no other plan: 400 pages cost $29 a month, and a document of up to 25 pages costs at most $9, paid once. On Dext, statement extraction comes with a paid plan, from $25.21 a month billed yearly with 10 sheets included, then from $0.32 a document. If you already pay for Dext and its allowance covers your statements, they cost nothing more there.
Can Dext send bank statements to QuickBooks or Xero?
As a CSV. Dext says bank statements can't be published directly to accounting software: you download a CSV in a Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage layout and import it. pdf2text also works by import, with Excel and CSV plus QBO, OFX, QuickBooks CSV, and Xero CSV files you import.
Can I keep Dext and use pdf2text for statements?
Yes. Each statement converts on its own in pdf2text, so you can keep Dext for receipts, bills, and supplier statements and send bank statements here.
Does pdf2text read scanned statements?
Yes. It reads scanned PDFs and phone photos as well as digital PDFs.
