What to know about TD Bank (US) statements

The minus comes last

TD Bank can print a debit with the minus sign after the number, as in $87.34-. Paste that into Excel and you get text, so the column won't add. The converter reads a trailing minus as a negative amount and drops the dollar sign, so totals work immediately.

Not the same as TD Canada Trust

TD Bank in the US and TD Canada Trust issue different statements with different layouts. If you hold accounts on both sides of the border, convert them in separate batches, and keep US dollar and Canadian dollar activity in separate bank accounts in your books.

Paper and online, by default

Online Banking customers receive paper statements as well as online ones unless they switch. If you're rebuilding history from a drawer of paper statements, scans convert too, and the balance comparison tells you whether any line was misread.

Small business statements

Small Business Online Banking keeps up to seven years of account statements and can email you when a new one arrives. That makes month-end routine: download, convert, import the CSV and reconcile to the closing balance.

Accounting tip

TD Bank lets you download account information straight to Quicken or QuickBooks, which is the easier route for recent activity. For older statements, upload the converted CSV in QuickBooks Online or Xero and map the date, description and amount columns.

  • Checked before export

Opening balance plus transactions is checked against the closing balance. Duplicate or missing periods are flagged.

  • Export formats

Excel, CSV, JSON, or QuickBooks and Xero CSV.

  • Private workspace

HTTPS uploads, kept private until you ask support to delete them.

FAQ

TD Bank (US) statement questions

Can I convert a TD Bank credit card statement?
Yes, if it's a PDF. Card statements list purchases, payments and interest instead of deposits and withdrawals; in the output, purchases and payments sit on opposite sides of zero, with full dates, so the file can be checked against the statement balance.
I have statements from before April 2010. Can I still convert them?
TD's online archive won't have them, so you'd be working from paper or PDFs you saved at the time. Both convert. Scans go through text recognition, and each statement's rows are compared with its balances so you can see whether anything needs a second look.
Can I import converted TD Bank (US) rows into QuickBooks or Xero?
Yes. Review the rows, then export a QuickBooks or Xero CSV.
