Convert Metro Bank statements to Excel or CSV

Metro Bank says you can download PDFs of all your statements since the account was opened, so long history is there if you need it. The catch is that it's all PDFs. Upload the statements here and the transactions come back as Excel or CSV for Self Assessment, a mortgage application or your bookkeeping software.

What to know about Metro Bank statements

Every statement since opening

Because Online Banking keeps statements back to the day the account opened, you can rebuild several years in one sitting. Upload the PDFs together and the set is checked for missing, duplicate or overlapping months before you export, which beats lining up dozens of files by hand.

Account details above the table

Account details and the statement period sit above the transaction table on the first page. Copy-paste tends to drag them into the first rows of your spreadsheet. The conversion keeps header information separate, so the table starts with the first real transaction.

Card purchase locations

For card purchases, the location prints on a separate line from the merchant name. The converter joins the two into one description, so a coffee in Leeds doesn't become two rows, and matching rules in your software can work on the full text.

Signed amounts

Each transaction comes out with a single signed amount, money out negative and money in positive. Starting from the opening balance, the rows are added up and compared with the closing balance, so you know the conversion is complete before importing.

Accounting tip

In Xero, the first CSV import asks you to map the columns, and Xero remembers that mapping for later files. Import the Xero-ready CSV into the matching bank account, oldest statement first, and reconcile each month before loading the next.

  • Checked before export

Opening balance plus transactions is checked against the closing balance. Duplicate or missing periods are flagged.

  • Export formats

Excel, CSV, JSON, or QuickBooks and Xero CSV.

HTTPS uploads, kept private until you ask support to delete them.

FAQ

Metro Bank statement questions

Can I get Metro Bank statements from years ago?
Metro Bank says you can download PDFs of all your statements since the account was opened, from Online Banking. If you ask for posted copies instead, it says they take 10 working days. Upload as many PDFs as you need here, and gaps between periods are flagged.
Will my name and account number end up in the spreadsheet?
Not in the transaction rows. The details at the top of the statement are kept separate from the transactions, so your Excel or CSV file contains dates, descriptions, amounts and balances rather than a block of personal details.
Can I import converted Metro Bank rows into QuickBooks or Xero?
Yes. Review the rows, then export a QuickBooks or Xero CSV.
