What to know about Royal Bank of Scotland statements
Codes from the bank's own list
RBS publishes its statement abbreviations: D/D for Direct Debit, S/O for standing order, TFR for transfer, POS for a debit card payment, C/L for a cash machine withdrawal and TSU for telephone banking. The converter keeps them in the description, so card spending and bills can be separated with a filter.
Spending abroad
Card payments in other currencies can bring extra lines. N-S TRN FEE is a non-sterling transaction fee, and VRATE refers to the Visa exchange rate. Where the fee is printed as its own transaction it converts as its own row, so it can go to bank charges instead of hiding inside the purchase.
Day and month, no year
The date column shows day and month without the year. The converter takes the year from the statement period and writes YYYY-MM-DD, so a December to January statement keeps each row in the right year.
Years of statements at once
Statements go back up to seven years, so a batch can easily mix years. Upload them together and each period is read, missing or overlapping months are flagged, and every statement's balance is reconciled on its own.
